Message from the Chairmen
As on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 02:00pm, Bangladesh time, 868,061 cases of COVID-19 infection have been detected officially in all 180 countries, death count is 41,261. Meaning 4.75% of infected died and 95.25% survived. Even if you are caught by Corona, be with the majority. And spread a new epidemic : Kindness and courage.
After taking a break for a while, our Committee of Action for Research, Extension and Services (CARES) is making a comeback. In the annual general meeting held on 16 February 2019, a new executive committee for 2019 -2020 has been formed, aimed at the smooth and effective governance of the organization. The Society was established by His Excellency Dr Majeed Khan,
former minister of education who founded quite a few centres of excellence including the first ever private university in Bangladesh. Our committee later received leadership of the Professor Shamsher Ali, an eminent physicist, founder of the Open University and former President of Bangladesh Science Academy. When the committee rendered the responsibility of chairmanship on my shoulder, I accepted it as my most adventuring job of life, audacious to fit in the shoes of the grand masters who were so wise and humble.
My first obvious tasks include streamlining up the legal, the accounts and the logistical structure of CARES. Restructuring CARES is pointed to assist our scientists, from both natural and social domains, to work finely for CARES on a stronger platform.
Bangladesh, except the city-states, is the most densely crowded country in the world, which under the risk of being most unfortunate sufferer to global climate changes. Our CARES, the organization consisting of natural and social scientists, must face and work with the crisis. Our members are well equipped with knowledge and the aptitude to nudge the population to change our lives. The new generations are hungry for knowledge and engaging the knowledge in life.
As I am writing this open message, scientists of our country, in their own institutional laboratories, recently have completed sequencing the genome of Jute (the best available natural fibre against plastic) and most delicious fish of the Bengal delta, the Hilsha. One of our scientists implemented his idea of using water in huge quantity as required by agriculture as well as in urban area, without lowering the underground water level. CARES members are visiting most underprivileged group of people and aiding them with help tips and in other forms. CARES is an amazing group, willing and able to save our planet and its residents.
In 2019, we’ll be working to unify all in-house talents by getting together physically and on the Net. CARES will use modern and effective facilities of the information and communication technology for itself and for everyone by creating databases.
Join us and engage science in life – your own life and the lives of all of us.
Professor Dr. Md. Mozammel Hoq, Chairman
